Week of Feb. 29 - March 4, 2016

Homework for this week:

Reading - this week we will be doing another close reading selection about another biome. We will be reading and answering questions about deserts. Our first close reading on temperate deciduous forests went very well and the students enjoyed learning and discussing with each other things about this biome. We will also discuss the week's vocabulary words and read the story "Seeker of Knowledge" from our reading text in small groups. Homework in reading will be to study the vocabulary on the family times newsletter.

Grammar - We will be learning about possessive pronouns this week. Review using the family times letter each night. Quiz will be on Friday.

spelling - pretest on Monday with corrections for homework. Tuesday will be the word search and Wednesday homework will be the ABC order sheet. Post test will be on Friday.

Math - We are starting topic 12 this week. The topic is adding and subtracting fractions. Homework will be 12-1 on Monday, 12-2 on Tuesday, 12-3 on Wednesday, and 12-4 on Thursday. We will cover 12-5 on Friday but will give time to complete the homework in school.

Science - watershed poster is due on Friday. A watershed is an area of land that stores water in the ground. Water flows from a higher elevation to a watershed before it empties into different bodies of water. We have had lessons on the importance of watersheds and water conservation. The poster should show either an important message or picture on the importance of taking care of our water supplies and our watersheds. A paper is in the green folder explaining it further. It needs to be completed on 8.5 x 11 inch paper ( or the paper I sent home with the directions).

We are also learning about animal habitats. Students will be working in groups this week creating a poster of an assigned habitat.

social studies- we will be continuing our lessons on PA. We will start to learn the history of PA. Check assignment books for any homework this week.
