Homework for the week is as follows:
Spelling- We will have a pretest on Tuesday of this week. The words are : return, courage, surface, purpose, first, turkey, heard, early, turtle, birthday, journal, courtesy, nourish, purse, furniture, search, curtain, burrow, hamburger, survey. Challenge words are : turquoise, absurd, furthermore, flourish, and nourishment. Post test will be Friday.
Grammar - This week we will be working on plural possessives. Plural possessives are plural nouns ( more than one person, place, thing, animal, or idea) that show ownership. Plural possessives are formed by adding an apostrophe to words already ending in s or by adding an apostrophe and an s to words that do not end in s. Examples are: The men's restroom was located at the end of the hall. The dogs' kennels were cleaned daily. Homework for Monday is workbook p. 156. Tuesday's homework will be workbook p. 163, and Wednesday's homework will be workbook p. 173. Thursday's homework is to study for a quiz on this which will be on Friday.
Reading- We are starting a new story this week called, "So You Want to Be President?". This is an expository text that tells humorous but true facts about past Presidents of the United States. The skills we are focusing on this week are main idea and details, inferring,and adding the suffix -ly to words. The vocabulary words for this story are : Constitution, howling, humble, politics, responsibility, solemnly, and vain. Homework is as follows: On MOnday complete workbook page 153 and p. 154. Tuesday's homework will be workbook p.155 INCLUDING the bottom part (Write a Speech). Complete the bottom part in your reading notebooks. Wednesday's homework will be to write a rough draft of
a persuasive essay. A persuasive essay is a piece of writing that you try to persuade or convince the reader to agree with your thoughts and opinions. An example of this is on page 305 of the reading textbook and also on page 154 in the workbook. The test on the vocabulary and skills for this story will most likely be on Friday or if there are any snow delays, Monday.
Science- Each class is at a different point in chapter 3. Mrs. Nestor's class is finishing lesson 2 and will be working on lesson 3. Mrs. Reinoehl's class will be working on lesson 4. Homework will depend on what is covered in class.
