Week of January 19 - 23, 2015

Homework for this week is as follows:


Reading - we are starting unit 3. Our first story is called "The Man Who Named the Clouds". We will introduce the story and theme of this unit Monday. We will work on understanding graphic sources ( time lines, charts, graphs, etc..) and how they can help us in remembering facts in nonfiction texts. We will also discuss our next writing which is a narrative poem. Homework for Monday will be to complete workbook pages 178 and 179. We will define new vocabulary on Tuesday and use them to write a weather poem. Homework for Tuesday will be to complete workbook p. 180 on the vocabulary words apprentice, atmosphere, chemical, club, essay, manufacturing, pressure, and scales. Wednesday we will read our story and answer the response questions. Homework will be to reread the story and review the questions. Thursday's homework will to use context clues to figure out word meanings on workbook page 184. Friday's homework will be to study the vocabulary words and skills covered this week for a test on MONDAY, Jan.26.


Grammar- The skill this week is identifying and using action and being verbs. Action verbs show action in a sentence ( it tells us what the subject is doing or has done or will do). Linking verbs do NOT show any action. They connect the subject to what the subject is or is like. Linking verbs are words like: am, is, are, was,were, seem, appear, become, and feel. Homework for the week is as follows: Monday will be to complete workbook page 181. Tuesday will be to complete workbook p. 188. Wednesday will be to complete workbook page 234. Thursday's homework is to study for a test on this which will be Friday.



Spelling - pretest is Monday. The words go along with the story "The Man who Named the Clouds". They are -ed and -ing ending words. The list is as follows: watched, watching, danced, dancing, studied, studying, stopped, stopping, dried, drying, happened, happening, noticed, noticing, robbed, robbing, slipped, slipping, hurried, hurrying. Homework for Monday is to complete all corrections from the pretest. Post test will be Friday, so the remainder of the week the homework is to study.


Science- We are working away on Chapter 3. WE are working in class through the chapter. I will be sending home an assignment this week. It will be to complete a report on an animal. All instructions will be included and sent home. Students can use the papers given to complete the report or can use the computer or even create a power point ( as long as the needed information is included). This will be sent home either tomorrow or Tuesday. The due date will be Monday, Feb. 1.


VO- A new third quarter list will be sent home. We will start having more frequent quizzes. Stay tuned this week for the list and information.
