January 21 - February 1, 2019

In all of my math groups, we are working on long division. You can check out tutorial videos on if you need help remembering the steps. Also, please use your note sheet to help. We will continue to work on division and also use our multiplication knowledge to check the division problems. We will be having a division quiz on either Thursday, Jan.24 or Friday, Jan 25. Homework this week will be the usual 4 day sheets. Remember these sheets have problems that may include skills or topics we have covered earlier in the year including place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, patterns, etc...

Also please continue to learn your basic multiplication facts if you have not yet memorized them. As you are now seeing, doing more complicated multiplication and division problems is a whole lot easier if you have the facts MEMORIZED.

BOOSTERTHON is continuing this week. Thanks to all of you who are supporting this fundraiser!!!!

Have a great rest of January.... stay warm and think Spring!!!

January 7 - January 18, 2019

Happy New Year!

For the next 2 weeks in math we will be finishing up multiplication and working into division strategies. We will have a multiplication quiz this week. Students can solve the problems using any strategy we have practiced ( box method or standard algorithm or "turtle head" ). For homework we will be going back to homework sheets that are broken into four days , Monday through Thursday. The homework will practice multiplication and division but may also go back to place value, addition, or subtraction. Any students who are still weak in their knowledge of basic multiplication/division facts should continue to practice them each night at home!

Have a great 2 weeks!

December 10 - December 21, 2018

Happy Holidays!

For the next 2 weeks in math we will be working on 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication and starting division. In multiplication, we have learned how to multiply using the standard algorithm ( usual way) and also using what we call an area model or box method. In order to complete these problems accurately, you need to know the basic multiplication facts up to the 9s. Please continue to study those facts so that they are memorized.

Homework for the next 2 weeks will be practice in multiplication and division. We will also have a quiz on multiplication this week and another on patterns, place value, and multiplication next week as a review before the Christmas break.

Enjoy the holiday season!!

Week of November 27 - 30, 2018

This week we will be working on multiplication. We will have a quiz on basic facts ( up to 6 times tables) on Tuesday. We will have a second quiz on Monday, Dec. 3 on all of the times tables up to 12s. It is very important for students to have these basic facts memorized. During class we will be focusing on learning the standard algorithm to multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers by both 1 and 2 digits. We will learn the box method as an additional way of solving multiplication problems. Homework for this week will be to study the times tables and complete a daily worksheet.

Have a nice week!

Week of November 12-16, 2018

This week will be starting multiplication models and algorithms. Students will solve 1 digit by 2 digit multiplication problems as well as 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication problems. We will also discuss what happens when we multiply a number with a zero in it and how place value effects a math problem. PLEASE study basic multiplication facts to increase fluency and accuracy. Homework this week will be a multiplication practice sheet.

Week of November 5- 9, 2018

This week in math we will be reviewing place value concepts ( expanded form, expanded notation, word form, standard form, rounding, comparing), addition and subtraction, and in/out tables. We will be closing out the week testing on these skills. Next week we will be starting multiplication.

Homework will be a review sheet each night from Monday - Thursday.

Week of October 29 - Nov. 2, 2018

This week in math we will be continuing addition and subtraction multi-step problems and solving in and out tables. We will be wrapping up unit 1 this week and have a test the week of Nov. 5- 9. Homework for this week will be back to the daily homework sheets for Monday - Thursday. Have a good week!
