The past few weeks we have worked on both fractions ( equivalent, adding, subtracting, simplifying, improper, and mixed numbers) and geometry. This week we have both the math and science PSSA tests. There will not be math homework this week. After PSSA testing is completed, we will continue with both fractions and geometry for a few weeks. We will then end the year with a geometry/measurement project.

Happy May!!!

### April 8- April 19, 2019

The next two weeks in math class ( periods 2-3) we will be working on fractions and decimals. We will practice adding and subtracting fractions, simplifying fractions, comparing and ordering fractions. We will also practice mixed numbers and improper fractions. In addition to our regular math class, we will also be becoming familiar with geometry in the next 3 weeks during our intervention times.

First period math will continue working on multiple step word problems and will begin fractions within the next few weeks.

Homework for all classes will be practice of the skills and topics we are covering in class ( word problems, fractions, decimals).

### March 25 - April 5, 2019

The next two weeks in math we will be finishing up multiple step problem solving and moving on to fractions and decimals. We will be testing on problem solving approximately March 27. Homework for the next two weeks will be either a worksheet on fractions/decimals or the Mon-Thursday sheets which will include fractions, decimals, and review of past skills.

Continue to play Prodigy at home for at least 10 minutes a day to keep up on skills. Also, remember you can use mathantics.com and utilize free videos to review what we are learning in school!

### March 4 - 15, 2019

The next two weeks in math we will be continuing to work on math word problems involving the four operations but especially multiplication and division. We will analyze the problems to look for words that will help determine what operation must be used to solve. We will use strip diagrams, and/ or other pictures to help us set up the problems and give us a visual aide. Homework will be either a problem solving worksheet or the usual Monday-Thursday mixed review sheets. I am hopeful that by the middle of March we will be moving on to fractions and decimals.

### February 18 - March 1, 2019

For the next two weeks in math we will be working on problem solving using multiplication and division. We will solve input/output tables and problems involving variables ( letters used in math equations that we need to solve for). Homework will be the usual Monday - Thursday sheets and /or another practice sheet. If we manage to have a full week of school, we should be starting fractions and decimals in March. Let's hope that Mother Nature gives us a break!

Have a great rest of February!

### February 5 - 15, 2019

In the next two weeks we will be testing on division and multiplication. We will then be moving onto problem solving that involves the four operations especially multiplication and division. Homework will be either the usual Mon - Thurs. sheets or another practice sheet related to what we are working on. Hopefully, we can get a few full weeks in, as we will be starting fractions and decimals in March.

*** any parent who is a PTO member and has their clearances on file that would like to come in for the Valentine's Day party ( Feb. 15 at 2), please send in a note of interest. Thank you!!!

Have a good day and first half of February!!!

### January 21 - February 1, 2019

In all of my math groups, we are working on long division. You can check out tutorial videos on www.mathantics.com if you need help remembering the steps. Also, please use your note sheet to help. We will continue to work on division and also use our multiplication knowledge to check the division problems. We will be having a division quiz on either Thursday, Jan.24 or Friday, Jan 25. Homework this week will be the usual 4 day sheets. Remember these sheets have problems that may include skills or topics we have covered earlier in the year including place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, patterns, etc...

Also please continue to learn your basic multiplication facts if you have not yet memorized them. As you are now seeing, doing more complicated multiplication and division problems is a whole lot easier if you have the facts MEMORIZED.

BOOSTERTHON is continuing this week. Thanks to all of you who are supporting this fundraiser!!!!

Have a great rest of January.... stay warm and think Spring!!!
