Week of October 14 - 17, 2014
Homework for this week:
spelling - anyone who needs to take the spelling pretest will be taking it Tuesday. The words are listed with the story "What Jo Did" and end in -s and -ies. Posttest will be Friday.
Grammar- We will be working on complex sentences and clauses. A clause is a group of words with a subject and a verb. A dependent clause begins with a word such as because or when. It cannot stand alone as a sentence. An independent clause can stand alone.
Example: dependent clause: when we saw Yosemite
independent clause: It was a beautiful fall day.
a sentence made up of a dependent and an independent clause is a complex sentence.
Homework for this week is as follows: For Tuesday complete workbook p. 87, Wednesday will be to complete workbook p. 104 if not completed in class. Thursday will be a worksheet. Friday will be a quiz.
Reading - We are starting a new story called "Letters Home from Yosemite". Tuesday's homework will be to define the vocab in the reading notebooks and complete 1 -10 only on workbook p. 86. Wednesday's homework is to do the "Words to Write" assignment found on p. 142 in the reading text. As usual, this assignment is to be neatly completed in the reading notebook. Thursday's homework is to complete workbook p. 105 which is to write out an idea for a personal narrative. A personal narrative is simply a story you write about a personal experience.
Science - We are finishing chapter one this week. Review the vocabulary cards each night and the study guide on p. 39, we will complete p. 40 -41 in class and they can also be used as study guides. Test will be FRIDAY!
