following is the homework for this week:
Reading- we are starting a new story this week called The Great Kapok Tree. It continues to follow along with the theme "patterns in nature". We will discuss new vocabulary on Monday and have words to define and use in sentences or a paragraph for homework. We will continue to practice identifying generalizations in texts as well as focusing on inferences, root words, prefixes, and suffixes and how they can help identify unfamiliar words, and using graphic organizers such as tables, maps, pictures, diagrams, etc.. to help us remember facts and better understand non-fiction texts. We will have practice book pages for homework Tues- Thurs. to practice these skills and I am hoping to test on Friday. The test will consist of the vocabulary words, five questions on using context clues to identify word meanings, a story with 10 questions using the skills we have been working on, and one written response question that is from the story we read in class. This past week we had a BIG overall improvement in the scores, hooray!!!!
Grammar - this week we will be working on our flip books covering synonyms, antonyms, homophones, and homonyms. We will not be working in our grammar practice books. We will complete our flip books and create tongue twisters, poems, riddles, etc... to practice the skills covered. There will a matching test in a few weeks on the concepts presented in the flip books so make sure you keep all of them in your reading/grammar folder.
Science- My homeroom will be finishing up the solar system folders and will be getting a quiz on Wednesday. The tested material will be highlighted in the solar system workbooks. Mrs. Nestor's class will be starting this unit on Monday and will be working with me in science the next weeks.
Spelling - We had our pretest on contractions. The pages in the spelling book are due on Wed and the post test will also be on Wednesday.
Have a great week!!!!! It's March so spring is coming soon and all this snow will be disappearing ... ( let's keep our fingers crossed).
