Tentative homework for this week:
Spelling - Post test is tomorrow ( Monday). The next pretest will be Wednesday, Jan 13th. The next list is compound words and includes the words: watermelon, homemade, understand, sometimes, shoelace, highway, upstairs, thunderstorm, shortcut, doorbell, jellyfish, touchdown, campfire, skateboard, anyway, fireworks, haircut, loudspeaker, laptop, and flashlight. The challenge words are : masterpiece, stomachache, cliffhanger, sweatshirt, and afterthought. Homework will be to study Monday and Tuesday for the pretest. Wednesday's homework will be to write corrections. Thursday will be the word search, and Friday will be the ABC order sheet.
Reading - Our story this week is called "The Eye of the Storm". It is an expository text written by a storm chaser and tells his account of Hurricane Andrew. The vocabulary words for this story are as follows: destruction, expected, forecasts, inland, shatter, and surge. The skill for this week is cause and effect. Homework will be to review the vocab words each night and use the suggestions on the family times letter to reinforce the skill.
Grammar- This week in grammar we will be working on past, present, and future tenses in verbs. Use the family times letter to review each night.
Math - We will be finishing up topic 8 on Monday. Monday's homework is to study for a test that will be on Tuesday. We will be starting topic 9 on Wednesday. Wednesday's homework will be 9-1. Thursday's homework will be 9-2 and Friday will be 9-3 ( we will try to give extra time so that they can finish before they leave for the weekend).
Science- Since we are going to be reading about and discussing storms in reading, we will be studying the weather and water cycle in science this week.
Social Studies- we are continuing reading and discussing PA
