Math - This week we will be starting topic 6. Topic 6 is on multiplying 1 digit numbers by 2 and three digit numbers. Homework is as follows: Tuesday -P6-1, Wednesday P6-2, Thurs. P6-3, and Friday P6-4. We will give time on Friday to complete the homework in school.
Reading - We are starting Unit 3. The theme is patterns in nature. Our first story is called "The Man Who Named the Clouds". We will be focusing on the skill of reading graphic sources ( charts, diagrams, graphs, etc..), understanding word origins, and using our vocabulary words ( apprentice, atmosphere, chemical, club, essay, manufacturing, pressure, and scales). Homework will be to study the vocabulary nightly as well as reviewing the information on the "family times" letter.
Grammar- We are reviewing and practicing identifying and using action and linking verbs. Action verbs are words that show action. Most action verbs show actions you can see, but some show actions such as think and wonder that are not visible. Linking verbs do not show action. They tell what the subject is or what the subject is like. Common linking verbs are am, is, was, were, seem, appear, become, and feel. Homework will be to study the family times letter and practice finding action and linking verbs in ads or newspapers at home.Quiz on this will be Friday or Monday of next week depending on how things go.
Spelling - Pretest will be Wednesday. The list is composed of words that end in -ed and - ing. The following are the week's list words: watched, watching, danced, dancing, studied, studying, stopped, stopping, dried, drying, happened, happening, noticed, noticing, robbed, robbing, slipped, slipping, hurried, hurrying. Post test will be next Tuesday, December 8.
Science - we are continuing studying about plant and animal classification. Most work is completed in class but there may be some activities coming home to complete this week. Please review the vocabulary words in the green folder each night.
Social Studies- Native American Dwelling projects are due NEXT Monday, December 7.
