Week of September 28 - October 2, 2015

Following is the tentative homework for this week:


Spelling - Monday is the pretest for List 4. The words are: prairie, calorie, honey, valley, money, finally, movie, country, empty, city, rookie, hockey, collie, breezy, jury, balcony, steady, alley, trolley, and misty. HOmework will be to finish writing any corrections from the pretest 3 times each. Tuesday - Thursday the homework will be to study the list. Post test will be Friday.



Grammar - This week we will be working on identifying and forming compound sentences. A compound sentence is made up of two simple sentences joined by a comma and a connecting word such as and, but, or or,

Example : simple sentences: Fairy tales are very old.
Children still enjoy them.
Compound sentence: Fairy tales are vary old, but children still enjoy them.

Homework for this week is to study this concept as we will practice it in school.
Quiz on this will be on Thursday.


Reading - Our story this week is called " The Horned Toad Prince". It is a fantasy story about a western girl who finds a toad who talks. He convinces her to kiss him so he can turn into a prince. Our skill for the week is reviewing author's purpose, literary elements, and also identifying synonyms and antonyms ( same and opposite word pairs). The vocabulary words for this week are: riverbed, favor, prairie, lassoed, bargain, offended, and shrieked. Test on the skills and vocab will be on Friday. HOmework for this week will be Monday - study new vocab on family times sheet; Tues - Complete the bottom portion of workbook p. 75 ( write a fairy tale), wednesday and Thursday will be to finish up anything not finished in intervention time and to study the vocab.


Math- We will be finishing up topic three and moving to topic 4 later in the week. Mrs. Eger will be testing topic three on either WEdnesday or Thurdsay. Since we have a pep rally on Friday, we will start up topic 4 on MOnday. That will be focusing on adding and subtracting two digit numbers ( with carrying and borrowing).


Social Studies- Everyone should be either finishing or working on the PA projects. They are due in a few weeks.


Science - We are working on lessons 3 and 4 in chapter 1 in science. We will have a lesson check on lessons 3 and 4 this week and they will be graded. Although we do complete the majority of our work in school, there may be something sent home that we don't finish in class. Make sure all work is complete.


Have a great week! Its spirit week. Please refer to the paper sent home on all the themes of the week. Monday is idol day , so dress as your favorite idol, Tuesday is decades day, so you can dress up in outfits from your favorite decade , Wednesday is team day , wear you favorite team jersey or tshirt. Thursday is opposite day, and Friday is spartan spirit day. Friday is our homecoming football game, so if you can, come out and support our team!
