Week Of September 21 - 25, 2015

Tentative homework for this week is as follows:


Spelling - we will have the pretest for list 4 on Monday. There will be written homework on MOnday. The homework will be to write each incorrect word three times each. The rest of the week, the homework will be to study for the post test on Friday. Following are list 4 words: sweet, each, three, least, freedom, below, throat, float, foam, flown, greet, season, croak, shallow, eagle, indeed, rainbow, grown, seaweed, and hollow.


Grammar- The lesson this week will be on complete subject and complete predicate in sentences. The subject part of the sentence tells whom or what the sentence is about. All the words in the subject are called the complete subject. The predicate part of the sentence tells what the subject is or does. All the words in the predicate are called the complete predicate. We will practice identifying subject and predicate this week. Homework will be to study and practice at home using sentences from books, magazines, or newspapers. Following are examples:
The mud from the river squished beneath her feet. Mud is the simple subject and The mud from the river would be the complete subject.
The mud from the river squished beneath her feet. squished is the simple predicate ( verb) and squished beneath her feet would be the complete predicate.



Reading - Our story this week is called "On the Banks of Plum Creek". It is written by Laura Ingalls Wilder and is historical fiction. The skills we will be focusing on are literary elements ( characters, setting, and plot of a story), point of view ( first or third), and using the word endings -ed and - ing. The vocabulary words for this week are : badger, bank, bristled, jointed, patched, ruffled, and rushes. Homework is to study the words and meanings. Tuesday there will be written homework practicing the words. The homework will be the bottom of workbook p. 64 (write an email message). This is to be completed in their ELA notebooks. Test on the skills of this week will be on Friday. Log on to pearsonsuccessnet.com where there are some review activities and videos.


VO- Study the prefix cards in your red ELA folders, we will have a quiz on those prefixes on Thursday. The grades for VO get averaged into the Reading portion of our ELA.



Science - We are continuing chapter 1 and will be completing lessons 2 and possibly 3 this week. The main idea of this chapter is to introduce how scientists study and use things around them.


Social Studies - We are working on map skills and looking at Pennsylvania. Continue to work on PA projects.


Math- A new topic will be introduced by Mrs. Eger. Homework will be updated for that tomorrow.
