Week of February 9 - 13, 2015

Welcome to another week of "wonderful" wintry weather and the interruptions that go along with it! Our Valentine's party will be Thursday from 1:30 to 3:00. Any PTO homeroom parents or grandparents are welcome to come in and help out. I do have a valentine scavenger hunt and bingo game, but if anyone who helps out would like to plan a game or craft, it is most welcome!

TENTATIVE homework for this week is as follows:

Spelling - Since we had a delay on Friday, we did not get to take our pretest. We will take the pretest on WEDNESDAY. The words go with the story "How Night Came From the Sea" and are as follows: however, mountain, mound, scout, shout, couch, towel, ounce, coward, outdoors, flowerpot, scowl, browse, announce, hound, trout, drowsy, grouch, eyebrow, boundary. The post test will be next Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Reading - We are finishing up reading the story "Adelina's Whales" and the skills that go along with it (fact/opinion; using context clues to figure out word meanings, and vocabulary words). The vocabulary words are: biologist, bluff, lagoon, massive, rumbling, and tropical. We will most likely be ready to take this test ( Reinoehl's homeroom) Thursday, but more than likely I will schedule it for next Tuesday. Mrs. Nestor's homeroom will have this same test next Tuesday for sure. Homework for this week is going to focus on reading AR books and studying vocabulary.

Eng/Lang- The next lesson in grammar is subject/verb agreement. If the subject is singular then the verb ends in s or es. If the subject is plural, the the verb will not end in s. For example: The dog chews the bone. Dog is singular so the verb chews ends in s. Another example would be: Bears hibernate in the winter. The subject bears is plural, so the verb does not end in s. We will not start this lesson until Wednesday or Thursday. Homework will depend on what we get covered Tuesday and Wednesday.

Science- We are starting Chapter 4. A new set of vocabulary cards will be coming home to start reviewing. The topic of Chapter 4 is ecosystems.
