Week of February 3 - 6, 2015

Well, on to another week of weather interruptions! Homework for the remainder of the week is tentatively as follows:
REWARD DAY and JEANS for a CAUSE DAY will be this FRIDAY, FEB. 6. The reward is electronic/game day.

Spelling - we were due to have our post test last Friday. We will have that test on WEdnesday. The list is homophones. Our next pretest will then be on Friday. The list goes with the story "How Night Came From the Sea". The list is composed of words that have the vowel sound as in "shout". The list is as follows: however, mountain, mound, scout, shout, couch, towel, ounce, coward, outdoors, flowerpot, scowl, browse, announce, hound, trout, drowsy, grouch, eyebrow, boundary.



Grammar- We will be working on identifying main and helping verbs. A verb that has more than one word is called a verb phrase. A verb phrase is made up of a main verb and one or more helping verbs. The main verb shows action. The helping verb or verbs tell more about the action. Common helping verbs are: am, is, are, was, were, will, would, should, has, have, had, do, does, did, can, and could. For example in the sentence: Scientists are studying the migration of whales. The verb phrase is "are studying". The main verb is "studying" and the helping verb is the word "are".Homework for this week will be to practice finding the verb phrase and identifying the main and helping verbs. We will be completing workbook p. 192 in class on Tuesday. Workbook page 199 will be homework for Tuesday. Homework for Wednesday will be workbook page 236. Thursday's homework will be to review and we will then have a quiz on Friday.


Reading - We will read and practice the skills that go along with the story "Adelina's Whales". As we read this story we will be reviewing the skill fact/opinion. The vocabulary for this story are the words: biologist, bluff, lagoon, massive, rumbling, and tropical. Homework for the week is as follows: Tuesday complete workbook pages 189-190-191. DO NOT do the bottom of page 191 for homework as we will work on that in class. Thursday's homework is to complete workbook page 195. The test for this story will be next Tuesday.


VO - We will have the prefix test tomorrow WEDNESDAY, Feb. 4. The next test will be on the suffixes and that will be next Thursday, FEB. 12.

Science - Animal reports are due tomorrow, Wed. Feb. 4. We will have a test this FRIDAY on Chapter 3 in science. A review sheet will be coming home to study. Also, review the chapter 3 vocab cards.
