Week of December 8 - 12, 2014

Homework for this week is tentatively as follows:

Spelling - pretest Monday, write corrections 3 times each for homework. The list will go along with the story "Horse Heroes". The words are as follows: Thanksgiving, young, whisper, trunk, among, wheel, elephant, strong, think, nephew, white, blink, blank, belong, shrink, chunk, graph, whiskers, wharf, skunk. The challenge words are: strengthen, bankrupt, phantom, whimsical, and whatever.

Grammar- We are starting a new lesson Tuesday in grammar. We will be learning and practicing using singular possessive nouns. Singular possessives are nouns that show ownership. Singular possessives end in an apostrophe and s ('s). An example would be : The friendly dog's tail wagged rapidly when he saw his owner. The tail belongs to the dog, therefore, the possessive noun dog's shows ownership. Homework for Tuesday will be workbook p. 145. Wednesday is all day chorus rehearsal at the high school so there will not be homework. Thursday's homework will be workbook p. 152.

Reading - Monday is the test on the story vocab for Scene Two for my homeroom only. The test will be Tuesday for Mrs. Nestor's class. Make sure to study the vocabulary ( script, advice, dishonest, descendants, arrangements, argument, and snag). Also review the prefixes dis-, non-, and re-. Tuesday's homework will be workbook p. 142, 143, 144. No homework Wednesday ( all day chorus). Thursday's homework is workbook p. 148 and p. 152. We will be starting a new story called Horse Heroes this week.

Science - We are continuing chapter 3 on plants and animals. This week we will discuss adaptations. Please keep reviewing all the vocabulary for this chapter as there is quite a bit.

VO - Continue studying the prefixes and suffixes on the second quarter list. We will have a test on this on Friday, December 19.

Accelerated Reader- Please keep reading your books. Every student is asked to reach the goal of 5 points for this quarter. If you reach beyond that, you will get a ticket to be placed in a drawing for a neat prize. This program is not graded, but reinforces the importance of reading.
