Week of January 21 - 24, 2014

Well here we go again with more weather delays and cancellations! Following is the homework for Wednesday - Friday ( with hopefully NO more weather interruptions).

Spelling - pages 45 - 49 are due tomorrow for those that did not finish. Test will be Thursday on those words which are all homophones ( words that sound alike but are spelled differently). We will then begin the new list on Friday by completing p. 50 and will have a pretest on those words Monday.

Grammar-
We are starting main and helping verbs. Helping verbs are words such as : is , are , was, were, has, have, had, will, can, etc.. They are paired with an action word such as It is snowing heavily today. Wednesday you will need to complete p. 45 in your grammar practice book. Thursday you will be completing p. 46 - 47. Friday we will complete p. 48 in class and will have a test on main and helping verbs on MONDAY of next week ( Jan. 27).

Reading- We are starting a new story called "Adelina's Whales". We will work on the skills associated with this story the next 6 days and will also complete a writing assignment. Wednesday you will need to define the new vocabulary words and use them in sentences in your reading notebooks. You may also write a paragraph instead of separate sentences but remember that a paragraph must have a common topic and flow together.
The skills we will be working on are fact-opinion, using context clues and graphic sources to help comprehension, and generalizations. Some practice book pages will be assigned for homework depending on what we cover in class each day.
* also our test will now be completed on the computer for each story/skill we cover. You will not receive a paper test to complete and take home. You need to share your test results with your parents on the pearsonsuccessnet.com site and log in as we have in school.

Science- We will be finishing up our weather unit this week ( or as much of this week as we end up having). We will complete our posters, interviews, and newspapers and wrap up weather. We will be moving on to a unit on the moon, sun, and stars.
