Homework for the week of September 24 - 28, 2012

Monday 9/24
Grammar - complete grammar practice book p. 14. We are working on compound sentences this week. Compound sentences are sentences with two subjects and predicates connected with a conjunction like or, and, OR but. It is basically two smaller sentences joined together. Compound sentences are important because they can make writing much more interesting. We will be testing on compound sentences on THURSDAY.

Reading - We are starting a new story called "The Horned Toad Prince". It is fantasy story written for the PURPOSE of entertainment. Homework for tonight is to use the new vocabulary for this story ( found on your family times letter or family newsletter) in sentences or a paragraph in the READING NOTEBOOK. Please underline the vocabulary words and also use your NEATEST handwriting and good sentence structure!

Spelling- We are having lesson 4 pretest today. Make corrections ( if needed) 3 times each in the spelling notebook. Finish spelling workbook p. 13 if you did not finish in class. ( INCENTIVE FOR YOU TO TRY YOUR BEST )


Vocabulary Olympics - First test is Tomorrow on the prefixes and the first 20 words.

Tuesday 9/25

Grammar - Make up three compound sentences in your grammar notebook. Do your neatest work and be prepared to share in class tomorrow!

Reading- We are listening to "The Horned Toad Prince " today. Read story at home tonight.

Spelling - Study list 4, complete spelling pages 14 and 15

Wednesday 9/26

Grammar- study compound sentences for test tomorrow

Reading- We completed the first 1/2 of scavenger hunt ( study guide). Study the answers tonight.

Spelling- study list 4, complete p. 16 in spelling book


Thursday 9/27

Grammar- NO homework tonight

Reading - Study the entire scavenger hunt and vocabulary words for the test tomorrow on the story "The Horned Toad Prince"

Spelling - Anyone who did not get a 100% on the pretest today will need to correct their mistakes and take the test tomorrow.


Friday 9/28

Get all tests signed and returned next week. Progress reports are coming home today!
