Homework for the week of October 1 - 5, 2012

Monday, Oct. 1 2012

Spelling- Due the upcoming presidential election, we have skipped ahead to the story "If I was President". We are working on the words that go along with that story this week. These words can be found on the white newsletter sent home today and also on p. 37 - 40 of the spelling book. Pretest on these words today. HOmework is to make any corrections ( if needed) and to complete spelling book p. 37.

Grammar- We are working on independent and dependent clauses. This makes our sentences complex. A dependent clause is a group of words that CANNOT stand alone as a sentence itself and is a sentence fragment. Dependent clauses begins with words such as when, if or as.



Reading- We have skipped ahead to the story "If I was President". Make up sentences or a paragraph using the vocabulary words: vain, politics, humble, solemnly, howling, Constitution, and responsibility


Vocab Olympics- start studying suffixes and words 21 - 30. Test will be next week either Wednesday or Thursday, Oct. 10 or 11th.

Science - review the meaning of consumer, producer, omnivore, herbivore, and carnivore

Grammar - finish grammar practice book p. 18 and review grammar book p. 17 -18

reading- review the trifold completed in class on the story

Science - Study consumer, producer, omnivore, herbivore, and carnivore for test tomorrow ( use handouts in orange folder)

Grammar - Test tomorrow on clauses and complex sentences, study grammar book p. 17 - 18 -19

Reading- Review the first half of the scavenger hunt completed in class on our story.

Science - No homework

VO - Study over the weekend suffixes, and words 20 - 30

Grammar - work on assigned writing project (Fall or Halloween "brew")
