Week of October 5 -9, 2015

Spelling - list 5 pretest is as follows: usual, huge, flute, mood, smooth, threw, afternoon, scooter, juice, cruise, truth, bruise, cruel, excuse, pupil, groove, confuse, humor, duty, curfew. Challenge words are: influence, aluminum, nutrition, accumulate, igloo. HOmework is as follows: pretest is Monday so the homework will be to write the words three times each for all students except those who get a 100$ on the pretest. Tuesday will be to complete the word search, Wednesday will be to write the words in ABC order. Thursday will be to study and Friday will be the post test.


Grammar- This week are lesson will be on complex sentences and clauses. Clauses are groups of words that contain a subject and a verb. Dependent clauses begin with words such as Because or when. Dependent clauses cannot stand alone as a sentence. Independent clauses can stand alone. Examples are as follows:

Dependent clause: when i was eight
Independent clause: My family visited Yosemite.


A sentence made up of a dependent and independent clause is called a complex sentence.

Homework for this week is to study. We will practice identifying clauses and complex sentences in class this week.



Reading - Our story this week is titled "Letter Home from Yosemite". the genre is expository text. Which is a true story containing true facts. The vocabulary for this week is : glacier, impressive, naturalist, preserve, slopes, species, and wilderness. the skills we will focus on this week are : main idea and details and identifying suffixes on words ( ist , ive). Our test will be Friday. HOmework for this week will be as follows: Monday will be to start studying the vocab. Tuesday will be to write a paragraph or poem using the vocabulary words. Wednesday and Thursday will be to study the vocab words.



Math - We will be starting topic 4 this week. This topic is adding and subtracting whole numbers. We will begin with mental math and estimation on Monday and Tuesday and continue with adding and subtracting on WEdnesday and Thursday. Monday the homework will be P4-1, Tuesday will be P4-2, Wednesday will be P4-3, and Thursday will be Practice 4-4. We will not have math on Friday due to the early dismissal.


Science - We will be finishing Chapter 1 this week and moving on to Chapter 2. We may have homework on Chapter one lesson 3 or 4 check and Chapter 2 lesson 1 check. Please check the assignment books.
