Happenings for the week of March 12 – 16, 2012

Next week we will be working on the letter Xx as in the end of fox and x-ray. Students will go on a treasure hunt throughout the building to find the “X” that marks the spot of their hidden treasure! This treasure hunt will be on Friday. There will be NO Show and Tell.
Word list 17 will be sent home in your child’s folder today. We will test this list next Friday, March 16. Please continue to practice sounding out each word with your child and memorizing the circled sight word.
Our new Reading story is Max Takes the Train. We will talk about forms of transportation. We will focus on fiction and nonfiction.
In math we will work with tangram pieces, identify small and large shapes, begin to measure length, graph a picture on a pictograph and explore slides, flips and turns with shapes.
Starting next week we will begin testing for the 3rd marking period. Please help your child by reviewing all the letters and sounds learned in phonics, blending sounds to read words, practice high frequency words and sight words, practice rhyming words, practice counting to 100, identifying numbers 0-30, identify coins; penny, nickel, and dime, and know each coin’s value, and tell time to the hour.

Thank you to all the parents that read the newspaper with their children this week! Congratulations to all of the Kindergarten students who found my ad in the paper! “I’m A Reader” contracts need to be returned by Monday, March 12th.

Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be taken March 30th. All students need to wear a white collared shirt for pictures! Package information is in your child’s folder today.

Monday will be day 1 on our rotation schedule. Our special class is library. Please remember to return library books.
