Week of February 6 - 10, 2012

Happenings for the week of February 6 – 10, 2012
• This week in phonics we will be working with the letter E. We will be focusing on the short sound of e as in elephant or egg. We will also talk about the long sound of e, but will not focus on that until later in the year. Show and tell will be on Friday, Feb.10. Please send in an object with that either begins with that sound or has it in the name of the object. We will continue with our word list tests as well on Friday.
• In math, we are practicing identifying numbers 0 – 20 and also will be doing some measuring. We are also reviewing the calendar each day and reviewing time to the hour and the penny, nickel, and dime.
• In reading, our next story is called “My Lucky Day”. It is a fantasy story about a tricky fox and a very lucky pig. Our focus skill will be cause and effect.
February 6-10 is bully prevention week. Here is the schedule for the week:
Monday: Don’t Knock it, Sock it!—Wear crazy socks
Tuesday: Hats off for no bullying—Wear crazy hats
Wednesday: Be different—Wear crazy hair
Thursday: Show that you’re a Spartan—Wear Red or Blue
Friday: Show that you’re a team player—Wear your anti-bully shirt or spirit shirt
***Any time during the week students may wear their anti-bully shirt purchased from PTO

Just a reminder that Tuesday, February 14th will be our Valentine Party from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00. I sent home a list of students for your child to use to write out valentines. If you misplaced the list, please let me know next week so I can send a new one home.
Monday will be day 3 in our five day cycle. We will have gym class.
