Week of January 16 – 20, 2012


Please note that there is NO school on Monday, January 16 due to a teacher inservice. When school resumes on Tuesday, it will be day 4. We will have computer class with Miss Kraft. Also, the end of the second quarter is on Wednesday, January 18. Report cards will be coming home on Friday, January 20. Please review your child’s report card and sign and return it by the following Friday.
This week in phonics we will be covering the letter U. Instead of show and tell the students are asked to report on a state instead. The details of this assignment have been sent home on a separate paper. The name of the state assigned to your child has been stapled to the direction sheet. Thank you in advance for helping your child with this.
In reading we will be reading and discussing the story “Hyde, Clyde”. This story is about an iguana who has difficulty hiding himself among his environment. The focus skill for this story is context clues. We will also discuss plot, characters, and setting.
In math we will continue practicing our numbers 1 – 20. We will also practice counting by 10s and reviewing patterns.
Word list nine has been sent home today. Please continue to practice this list daily. The test for this list will be on Friday, January 20th. I am very pleased with how well the children have been doing on this.
