Kindergarten News for the week of April 18 – 21, 2011


• This week in phonics we will be working on digraph sh as in shark, shoe, shell, shy, shine, etc... Due to this being a short week, we will NOT have show and tell this week. We WILL have a word list test on Thursday. We will be testing word list 21. Again, I will post the list on my blog but I will not be sending home the lists anymore. The assessment on this list shows me how well your child can blend the sounds into the words.
• In math, we are continuing working on the quarter, dollar, penny, nickel, and dime. We are also going to continue reviewing all of the numbers from 0 – 30 as well as matching equivalent sets of numbers and identifying larger numbers and smaller numbers.
• In reading, our next story will be “Mayday, Mayday”. This is a realistic fiction story about a plane that needs rescuing from the Coast Guard. Our focus skill will be cause and effect.
• This week we will have a special program called “Brain show Mania”. This program is a big hit with the children and is performed like a game show. It is a lot of fun while it also teaches some facts about science, math, etc... A big thank you to the PTO for providing this for us.
• Thursday, April 21 will be our Easter party. The party will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. We will have an egg hunt outside and then come in for a small treat. Let’s hope for a nice warm and sunny spring day!
• We will not be having school on Friday, April 22 and also on Monday, April 25 for our Easter break. When we return from our break, we will be beginning working hard preparing for our graduation ceremony coming up at the end of May.



Monday will be day 3 in our four day cycle. We will have gym class so please remember sneakers! Have a wonderful weekend!
