Welcome to the first week of school. This week will be all about practicing procedures and rules and getting acclimated to our classroom and routine. I am going to post the first spelling list, and reading vocabulary words for our story "Because of Winn Dixie". It is a good idea to review the words daily. You will be getting a list to keep at home to study later this week. Stay tuned for homework as the week goes on as we will be starting our subjects on Wednesday.
ELA - This is spelling, grammar, and reading instruction. The spelling list for our first story is as follows : admire, magnet, contest, method, custom, rally, soccer, engine, sudden, finger, accident, mitten, intend, fabric, flatten, rascal, gutter, mammal, happen, cannon.
The grammar lesson will be on the four types of sentences : declarative ( telling), interrogative ( question), imperative ( command), and exclamatory ( said with feeling). We will start this later in the week as well.
Our first reading story Is called "Because of Winn Dixie". The vocabulary words that go along with this story are: grand, memorial, peculiar, positive, prideful, recalls, and selecting. As mentioned above, a study sheet containing all of the spelling and vocabulary words will come home with each new story. Our focus skill for this story will be sequence and summarizing.
Math- We will review procedures for math facts this week and most likely take a practice math fact test. We will be starting with topic 2. More specific information on math will be coming as we get started this week.
Please return all beginning of the year paperwork by Friday if possible.
